SONAURA is a duo in every sense: Grayson Ty and Laura Buchanan are partners in writing, production, and in life. Staples in the Western Massachusetts music scene and beyond, Grayson Ty is known as a prolific solo artist, while Laura Buchanan is a member of iconic valley trio Eavesdrop. The moment the two artists began to collaborate, it was clear that they had discovered something special.

Both Ty and Buchanan are accomplished songwriters in their own right, but together, they create something entirely unique and new. Combining the best of romance and moodiness, Sonaura brings to mind the best of Kacey Musgraves, Lord Huron, and Night Traveler. Spanning genres and brimming with heartrending harmony, SONAURA has carved out a space of their own.

Sonaura’s debut album, long way ‘round, is a true songwriters’ album. The twelve tracks burn with intensity and stark honesty. It’s clear: both writers are masters of the craft, and together, they’ve made magic. long way ‘round feels like a love story in progress: the songs range from heartbreak and healing to the vulnerable act of opening yourself to love again – and all the passion and dreaminess therein. 

Ranging from folky soul (“Lovesick”) and country (“Fool’s Gold”) to acoustic folk (“A Dance With the Moon”), and colorful synthpop (“80 Miles”), long way ‘round showcases SONAURA’s power not only as a songwriting duo, but as a pair of voices. Their voices are warm and soulful, holding the listener in thrall through weaving harmonies and soaring choruses. Beautifully, you can hear both Ty and Buchanan smiling as they sing “love still waits” on the album’s penultimate track. 

“Ever After” features the line “long way ‘round,” which ultimately became the album title, perhaps referring to Ty and Buchanan’s journey as they found each other, fell in love, and became collaborators. The song ends with a love note: “far as we know, you and I have found what we’ve been searching for.”
